Zydecoal is a different kind of band on the regional music scene. Formed in early 1994 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., this five man group heats up the dance floor with the Cajun/Zydeco music of southwestern Louisiana. Zydeco is a blues based music that, like the gumbo Louisiana is famous for, brings exotic ingredients to a spicy boil. You will hear the sound of country, rock, blues, reggae and even Tex-Mex performed on accordions and rub boards and sung sometimes in Cajun French. You will enjoy carnival traditions like catching Mardi Gras beads and “Second Line” parades.
Bill Davis is lead singer and plays rub board, mandolin, harmonica, keyboards fiddle and guitar. Bill has been playing in the Pa. area since the '60s in country and rock bands.
Karl Kaminski joined the group in 2003. He is also a longtime veteran of the Pa. club scene and is an expert luthier having built guitars for members of the Allman Brothers Band. Karl plays guitar and sings.
Dave Gonzalo is featured on accordion. He is a former first place winner at the National Accordion Competition
Bob Gryziec, bass player and vocals, has played on top 20 hits with the Buoys, concert with Chuck Berry and everything from jazz to new wave.
Chris Kolojejchick, formerly with Teddy Young and the Aces, provides the wide variety of rhythms that zydeco calls for on the drums.
In their many years together, Zydecoal has played in clubs (including Abilene in Philadelphia, the River St. Jazz cafe in Pa., The Bayou in New York City ). Pocono resorts like Split Rock and Jack Frost, festivals in Hoboken NJ (with Herman's Hermits and Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees) N.Y.C. (with Robert Cray, The Radiators and Gatemouth Brown), Connecticut (with File), the F.M. Kirby Center, Bud Lite Amphitheater (with Buckwheat Zydeco), Norfolk Va. Bayou Festival, State College Arts Fair and they have jammed with the C.J. Chenier band and Billy Kirchen of Commander Cody and opened for the Dirty Dozen Brass band and the Grass Roots.
Both their 1997 CD "Where there's coal, there's fiyo" (in its second printing) and the 2002 CD, “Seedy”, have been reviewed favorable as far away as Sweden, Argentina and South Africa. 2004 brought a new CD, "Where you got them shoes" which was licensed to MTV and has reviews in Japan and Belgium. 2007's "Show us your originals" is a repackage of all the Zydecoal originals available to download on I-Tunes and Amazon
Every day is Mardi Gras when zydeco is playing and Zydecoal has worked hard to keep the sound authentic
